MASTER GARDENER Seeds – Chives Garlic

MASTER GARDENER Seeds – Chives Garlic

MASTER GARDENER by Mr Fothergills

Botanical Name: Allium tuberosum

Broader leaves than ordinary chives, they have a delicious mild garlic flavour. Use in salads, stir-fries, casseroles etc. Pretty white flowers are formed in summer. Also ideal for growing in pots.

We hope you enjoy these herb seeds, just another great example of  vegetable seeds from Mr Fothergill’s!

How To Grow

Drop seeds 12mm (half-inch) deep in groups of 3-4 seeds. Remove the weaker seedlings to leave one plant per position. Allow 15cm (6in) between the plants, and keep watered during the growing season. Chives will grow in any good garden soil.

  • Sow: Spring, Summer, Autumn
  • Harvest: 10-12 weeks
  • Contains: 175 seeds
  • Type: Perennial Herb with mild garlic flavour
  • Site: Full Sun
  • Moisture: Well Drained

  • Easy to grow
  • Ideal for deep freezing
  • Plant copes well with the summer heat
  • Vigorous grower and very tasty
  • Harvest: Cut leaves close to the ground as required.

Care Tips:

Using a sharp pair of kitchen shears, snip the leaves from the base of the plant, to within 1-2 inches of the soil. In the first year, harvest 3-4 times. Thereafter, cut the chive back monthly. Cut the flower stalks off at the soil line to prevent the plant from forming seed.

Cut leaves close to the ground as required.
