Sweet winter vegetable. Grows on wide variety of soils.  Even bush varieties benefit from support, try pushing twigs into the rows. Renowned for its flavour and vigorous growth. Early maturing, perfect for home gardens

Good resistance to powdery mildew

Sow Autumn and Winter.


In flat trenches 15cm (6in) wide, 5cm (2in) deep. Fill trenches with soil and gently firm down. If soil is damp no further watering is required until seedlings emerge – 7-10 days.

Sow Autumn to late Winter, Spring too in cold areas. Avoid flowering during periods of frost. Prepare flat trenches 15cm (6″) wide and 25mm (1″) deep, allowing 1m (3″) between rows. Plant in a zigzag pattern then fill with soil and firm down gently.

Train young seedlings up trellis or support to aid growth. Protect from birds and keep weed free.

Keep well watered. Seedlings emerge 7-10 days.


When pods are well-filled, 12 -14 weeks.
